Matthew's birthday cake

Matthew just turned two, actually it's been over a week now, but we've been busy. Any one who knows my boy, knows how much he loves "Lightning McQueen". It was pretty obvious what theme to use, but I couldn't figure out what to do for the cake.
I had three different ideas, settled on one, then changed the day I started decorating. I'm glad I changed it, because it turned out pretty cute.



The car on top of the cake is just a toy. I don't think I could make a car turn out well enough that I would want to show people. Atleast not yet.



I was going to do this same style cake, two tiered, but I was going to decorate the top and bottom in white and black checkered squares, like the winning flag. I thought that would take more time then I had. It still would have been cute, but I like the other one I did instead better.



Matthew had just gotten up from his nap, when I finished. I love the look of his face when he saw Lightning McQueen on top of the cake. I'm impressed I actually caught that look in his eyes with the camera. He loved it!!!
