This year was so much fun!! Both the kids were old enough to get excited about what the day held in store. And boy did we have a busy day.
First off, there is nothing like waiting till the day of to carve our pumpkins. Lots of fun for Mom. Kevin was in Salt Lake for work, and since the kids aren't exactly old enough to trust with knives, Mom got to carve four pumpkins. Of course the kids helped and were very curious with what was inside those pumpkins. Allison helped me pick out the faces. She told me what face, whether scary or happy, I should put on each pumpkin. Overall, I think they turned out pretty cute, and the kids loved them. I was a little worried that after all that time carving, the kids would drop, and break their pumpkins. They loved the pumpkins, Allison wanted to carry and hold hers, and Matthew just kept saying "ball, ball". I am glad to report that the pumpkins all survived, YEA!!
Megan and Mike invited us to do Halloween with them. It started out at Karen's (Mike's mom) house. There they had dinner and games waiting. Dinner was great, but we got a late start, so instead of games we went trick-or-treating. Allison, my very shy little girl, was very shy at Karen's house. There weren't a whole lot of people there that Allison knew. When we went to the first house, she hung back with Matthew and me. Then, you could see the light go on. After that she was up in front with the bigger kids racing to knock on the door first. She had no problems with being shy after that.
Matthew was awesome the whole night! He loved the trick-or-treating. He would "show" them his bucket, and say thank you. How sweet is that?!
Our rec. center put on a big carnival type gathering for young trick-or-treaters. They had a place were you could take a picture with a monster, or a princess. I'm sure you guys can all guess who Allison took a picture with. It was Cinderella, and Belle, even though she wouldn't smile for the camera, I'm sure she loved it. Then there was a fun obstacle course for the kids, and Giselle from Enchanted, lead them through the course. Again, Allison loved it, in fact had a hard time leaving.
They had two booths that involved ball throwing, so of course Matthew was all over that. Very simple game of just throw the ball into the basket and you get a piece of candy. It took a lot of convincing to get Matthew away from the balls, once he would make a basket (with help of course) we would show him the candy he just won, he would look interested for about a second, then go back to the ball.
After the rec. center, we went to grandma Mansfield's house. Took several pictures, visited with all the cousins (Wyatt and Michele and their kids came by about the same time we did), hit a couple more houses around the neighborhood. Then last of all we went to grt. grandma Mansfield's house.
It was such a fun night, the kids had a blast and I had such a good time watching them. I hope next year is just as good. I loved it!!
