Like riding a bike!

I wish!! This last thursday, the young women's basketball started. I'm the beehive adviser and thought it would be fun to go and cheer the girls on. My sister Megan is in my stake, and just got called to be the stake sports something or other, but she helps with all the sports.

Well this last thursday, I went down to watch, and we didn't have enough girls show up to make a team, and the other team was the same. We thought it would be fun to still play, but make it more a "learning" game. Teach them things as we go, and as we see they need. Well Megan and I both decided to play. That was a hoot!! Obviously on different teams, so we guarded each other, you know, to make it fair to the girls because we rock when it comes to playing ball. Or so we thought. I don't think I've picked up a basketball since I graduated, almost eleven years now, but I figured it would come back to me like riding a bike.

First, I think I need to wear my glasses. Every time I shot the ball it either went to the right or the left of the basket, never in.

Second, I think the ball either got heavier (no I didn't get weaker) or they've moved the basket up higher then it used to be. I always ended up short of the basket. If they are going to change these things they need to tell people!

I got a couple of fast breaks, and wow did I surprise myself. I actually got ahead of the crowd, but then, as I would get excited about that, I would loose the ball. Where did all my fancy ball handling skills go?! When the other team was on their way down to their side, it would hit. "Oxygen, I need some oxygen!" You could catch Megan and I hanging on the side lines, trying to hide it, but gasping for air.

It was so much fun!!! And I learned a lot of stuff that we need to teach our girls. Next practice we need to work on defense. A couple of the girls got too excited and pretty much took out the other players. Something that in a real game, you would get some serious punishment.

And wow!! The next day, I sure felt it, but in my lungs. My lungs aren't used to working that way. It sure did loosen up a bunch of gunk. I wasn't sore in my legs like I thought I would be. So, yea! My exercising must be doing something.

Hopefully they have enough girls there next week, but if they don't then I will do what I need to to help. :)

  1. Sounds like a lot of action on the court...Carly is so excited to come into Beehives. She has to wait till July. Maybe you'll still be there. Maybe not with that baby coming.

  2. I don't know why you were so out of shape, the game didn't even bother my lungs. Just kidding, I haven't ran that hard for a long long time.

  5. I totally know how you feel! I played softball with my YW after I had baby #2. As I ran to 1st base I realized I didn't know when the last time was that I ran--ahh! Not only that, but after babies, its just different.
    How fun, though!
